Plus, besides tasting good and helping you perk up in the morning, black coffee has a number of health benefits that will make you want to make the switch to only black coffee.

Take a look to see why you should start drinking black coffee today.

Black Coffee: Why You Should Drink It

Black coffee can protect you from a number of diseases.

One of the most amazing benefits of drinking black coffee is that it may protect you from several diseases including Alzheimers and Parkinson’s disease.

Studies have shown that coffee drinkers have up to a 65 percent lower risk of getting Alzheimer’s and a 60 percent decreased risk of getting Parkinson’s disease.

In addition, black coffee can also aid in reducing the risk of type 2 diabetes. Coffee drinkers have a 23 to 50 percent lower chance of getting this disease.

Black coffee can improve your physical performance.

The caffeine present in black coffee stimulates your nervous system. This causes fat cells to break down body fat and increase adrenaline in your blood. This is the hormone that gets your body ready for physical work.

This breakdown of body fat makes free fatty acids ready to be used as fuel. Therefore, a strong cup of black coffee before you head to the gym can improve your overall physical performance as much as 12 percent.

Oh yeah, it makes you smarter too.

Besides improving your physical performance, caffeine also improves a number of your brain functions. As you sip on your coffee, the caffeine travels through your digestive system, through your bloodstream and then to your brain.

When it gets to your brain, it blocks something call Adenosine, which is an inhibitory neurotransmitter. As a result, other neurotransmitters are increased such as dopamine, leading to more neurons firing.

This causes a stimulant eggiest which helps to boost your memory, mood, reaction times, and general cognitive function.

Black coffee keeps you calm.

Just the smell of coffee can make you feel more at peace. This happens became it changes the composition of a protein present in the brain that is associate with stress — particularly stressed caused by sleep deprivation.

Hence, we all seem to feel a lot better after waking up once we’ve had our morning cuppa.

Black coffee may help you live longer.

As if that wasn’t enough to convince you, black coffee has the potential to actually help you live longer. Since coffee drinkers are less prone to a number of diseases as listed above, it makes sense that coffee can lower the risk of death.

Studies have shown that drinking coffee was associated with a reduced risk of death for both men and women over the course of 18 to 24 years.

How You Can Start Enjoying Black Coffee Straight Up

Make high-quality coffee with alternative brewing methods, and stop using a basic drip coffee maker.

A great way to ease your way into becoming a black coffee drinker is to make good black coffee.   This is done by buying freshly roasted whole coffee beans (or by roasting your own beans), using an excellent brew method such as pour over, and using high-quality water in your brew.

To help you out a step further, I have a free step-by-step brew guide to help you make life-changing black coffee at home today. Enter your email below to download it today.

Decrease the amount of sugar or milk you put in your coffee gradually.

Cream and sugar, unfortunately, can dull the unique flavors of your coffee. It also makes your cup of coffee less healthy with the increased caloric and fat intake (compared to black coffee which has less than 5 calories and no fat).

To help make the transition to black coffee a little easier, one thing you can do is to slowly decrease the amount you put in every day. Begin by measuring out how much sugar and cream you put in your coffee on a normal day. Once you have this baseline, stick to that amount for about one week making sure not to go over that amount (not even once!).

After you’ve done that, go ahead and reduce the baseline amount by a quarter and then stick to that amount for the week. Continue to decrease by a quarter until you get down to no cream and sugar. Then, pat yourself on the back for getting to this point — congrats (I know it’s not an easy feat!).

Taste test different types of coffee.

In the age of third wave coffee, there is a plethora of coffee options available at your fingertips. Whether you want to try a local roaster down the street or order some special beans from across the country, there’s a coffee that’s right for you. It might take some trial and error to get there, so don’t lose hope.

If you’re looking for a good coffee that tastes excellent black, I personally would recommend a medium roast or a light roast for the more adventurous taste testers from Blue Bottle Coffee. They have an amazing coffee selection, and often sell very rare varieties such as their Gesha coffee (one I also highly recommend getting if you ever have the chance).

As you can see, there are a ton of reasons to drink black coffee. Though it may be challenging at first if you’re not used to the taste, it’s well worth in the end for the incredible health benefits it offers and to be able to develop a palate that can taste incredible coffee flavors. So, what are you waiting for?

It does take some getting used to – so you can ease into it slowly by using less and less milk each day!

Which might explain why wine finally started to make sense once I stopped reading tasting notes and started standing in vineyards.

Because at the end of the day…
wine isn’t just a drink. it’s farming. 🍷🌱

I wrote a little about that realization in my newest piece on Baked Brewed Beautiful.

I usually notice the coffee first, but this time i I usually notice the coffee first, but this time it was roasted barley tea🫖

My most hospitable friend kept refilling it all day like some people keep a pot on. Toasty, nutty, unexpectedly comforting. Plus, the experience was all the more elevated with her artisan ceramics🍵

And as I was headed out the door, her mom fittingly handed me single-serve pour overs she brought back from overseas. I was shocked to discover it’s about as close as you can get to specialty coffee in a pre-packaged setup.

I’m not replacing coffee.

But barley tea made a very respectable case.
